'Color Flash' is one of several ardensii hybrids that are a cross between the chinensis, japonica, thunbergii, and astilboides varieties. Forms clumps of toothed leaves and forms plume-like flowers in early summer.
Color Flash was introduced in 2005 in the Netherlands and is prized for its upright habit, rapid growth rate, and brightly colored foliage. Light pink flowers rise above foliage that provides a year-round show, emerging green, maturing to burgundy and green, and then turning gold and orange in fall. white flowers appear in early summer above a mass of deeply serrated leaves.
No serious insect or disease problems, though foliage may turn brown in hot weather or if the plant does not receive enough water. Also keep an eye out for powdery mildew and wilt. Great for moist, partially shaded areas. Astilbe must have consistently moist soil to thrive.
Cut back the old foliage in spring. Divide in early spring every 3 - 4 years.
