Recipient of the Award of Garden Merit from the Royal Horticultural Society. Bleeding heart is a favorite shade perennial that reaches a size of 2 - 3 feet tall and wide. In spring, heart-shaped pink flowers dangle on arching stems, bringing early spring color to shady areas of the garden.
This herbaceous perennials blooms for 4 - 6 weeks in late spring to early summer, then tends to decline and go dormant in the heat of summer. Plant this among other shade-loving perennials to fill in the space when these go dormant for the season.
