THIS PLANT SHIPS BAREROOT, OFTEN WITH BUDS ALREADY BEGINNING TO LEAF OUT.
A new twist on an old favorite, 'Valentine' sports red flowers on long arching stems in late spring. Dicentra forms large, bushy clumps of foliage and thrives in part- to full-shade. Great for adding structure to heavily shaded areas.
After blooming, dicentra tend to die back until the following year. Be sure to plant it near something that can fill in the gaps when dicentra goes dormant such as hosta, caladium, or hardy geranium.
Planting Tips
- Plant in a location that is protected from high winds and early frosts.
- Propogate dicentra by digging up and dividing in spring or fall, but take care not to damage the fleshy roots!
- Dicentra will self-sow if allowed and create more dicentra! (Be aware and plan accordingly!)
