Bloom Time: Fall
The "Cascade" series of butterfly bushes are known for their arching, downturned panicles blooming in late summer and fall. 'Pink Cascade II' sports large, pink 12" panicles when many other plants in the garden are fading and beginning to go dormant. As the name suggests, this shrub also attracts butterflies, bees and hummingbirds to its honey-scented blossoms.
Soil
Good drainage is essential. The combination of wet soil and cold temperatures is particularly detrimental.
Pruning
Cut back to about 12" in spring. This will result in a more compact plant that will quickly grow to normal height by fall. Avoid cutting in fall/winter, as this can damage the plant.
Growing Tips
Plant in full sun for best flowering. Adding lime to the soil will result in increased growth and better flower quality as well. These tend to break dormancy late in spring, so don't worry when if you don't see new growth emerging in late March/early April.
